Crankshaft - Installation

INSTALLATION





1. Install upper main bearing shells into engine block (1).
2. Lubricate upper main bearing shells with clean engine oil.
3. Install the crankshaft.
4. Install lower main bearing shells (2) into main bearing caps.
5. Lubricate lower main bearing shells with clean engine oil.




6. Install each main bearing cap in proper sequence and direction. Tighten all bolts finger tight.
7. Tighten main bearing cap bolts 1-12 in the sequence shown to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
8. To ensure correct thrust bearing alignment move crankshaft all the way to the rear of its travel.
9. Then, move crankshaft all the way to the front of its travel. Wedge an appropriate tool between the rear of the cylinder block and rear crankshaft counterweight to hold the crankshaft in its forward position.
10. Tighten main bearing cap bolts 1-12 to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
11. Tighten main bearing cap bolts 1-12 to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.




12. Tighten main bearing cap side bolts 1-12 to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
13. Tighten main bearing cap side bolts 1-12 to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
14. Remove the crankshaft holding tool.
15. Install new connecting rod bearings.
16. Install rod caps. Bolt threads should be coated with clean engine oil. Tighten connecting rod bolts to 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.) +45°.
17. Install oil pump pick up tube using a new o-ring. Tighten 1/4-20 bolt to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.). Tighten 5/16-18 nut to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.).




18. Install the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer (2)Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal and Retainer - Installation.




19. Tighten rear seal adapter retaining bolts to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
20. Install timing chain Timing Chain & Sprockets - Installation.




21. Install the crankshaft oil scraper (1) with the arrow (2) pointing towards the front of the engine. Tighten nuts to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.).




22. Install oil pump swinging pick-tube (2) with new o-rings.
23. Install timing chain cover Timing Cover - Installation.
24. Install oil pan Engine Oil Pan - Installation.
25. Install crankshaft damper and pulley Vibration Damper - Installation.
26. Install engine assembly Engine - Installation.
