Timing Cover - Installation



INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Do not use a metal scraper to clean aluminum sealing surfaces, as damage to surfaces may
occur. Use only a plastic scraper and Mopar� Brake Parts Cleaner or the equivalent.


1. Be sure mating surfaces of chain case cover and cylinder block are clean and free from burrs.
2. Remove crankshaft oil seal to insure correct oil pump engagement.





3. Inspect timing chain cover gasket (2), replace as necessary.
4. Insert gasket (2) into groove in timing chain cover (1).
5. Pour oil into the oil pump to prime oil pump prior to installing timing chain cover.
6. Position the oil pump inner rotor mating flats in the same position as the crankshaft drive flats.
7. Install timing chain cover onto crankshaft. Ensure the oil pump is engaged on the crankshaft correctly or severe damage may result.





8. Hand start bolts # 1 and # 2.





9. Install A/C compressor mounting bracket (2) and hand tighten bolts.
10. Hand start remaining timing chain cover bolts.





11. Tighten timing chain cover bolts in the sequence shown in to 28 Nm (248 in.lbs.).
12. Tighten A/C compressor mounting bracket bolts to 29 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).
13. Install front crankshaft oil seal.
14. Raise vehicle on hoist.





15. Inspect oil tube O-rings (1), replace as necessary.





16. Install oil pick up tube oil tube (2) and tighten bolts (1,3) to 28 Nm (248 in. lbs).
17. Verify that the singing oil pick - up swings freely. If pick up does not swing freely, loosen mounting bolts and re-tighten bolts.
18. Install oil pan and drain plug.
19. Lower vehicle.
20. Install A/C compressor mounting bolts. Tighten bolts to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.).
21. Connect oil cooler line.
22. Connect heater hose.





23. Install crankshaft damper (2) and pulley.
24. Connect coolant bottle inlet hose at thermostat housing.
25. Install generator. Connect electrical connectors.
26. Connect engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor wiring harness connector.
27. Install power steering pump mounting bolts.
28. Install accessory drive belt.
29. Install upper and lower radiator hoses.





30. Install front strut tower to tower brace (1).





31. Install air cleaner housing (1) assembly.
32. Install NEW oil filter.
33. Fill engine crankcase with proper oil to correct level.
34. Fill cooling system.





35. Connect negative battery cable. Install battery cover. Close trunk lid.
