Rear Axle Hub





AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL: REAR AXLE HUB: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

NOTICE:
When the brake pedal is first depressed after replacing the brake pads or pushing back the disc brake piston, DTC C1214 may be output. As there is no malfunction, clear the DTC.

HINT
* Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

1. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 FLOOR BOARD (for Separate Type) Removal

2. REMOVE REAR DECK FLOOR BOX Removal

3. REMOVE REAR NO. 3 FLOOR BOARD Removal

4. DISABLE BRAKE CONTROL Removal

5. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

6. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH Removal

7. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH Removal

8. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY Removal

9. LOOSEN PARKING BRAKE CABLE Removal

10. DISCONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY Removal

11. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Replacement

12. REMOVE REAR DISC Removal

13. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS

(a) Using a dial indicator, check for looseness near the center of the axle hub.

Maximum looseness:

0.05 mm (0.00196 in.)

NOTICE:
* Ensure that the dial indicator is set perpendicular to the measurement surface.
* Keep the magnet of the dial indicator away from the rear axle hub and bearing (rear speed sensor).

HINT
If the looseness exceeds the maximum, replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.





14. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT

(a) Using a dial indicator, check for runout on the surface of the axle hub outside the rear axle hub bolt.

Maximum runout:

0.05 mm (0.00196 in.)

NOTICE:
* Ensure that the dial indicator is set perpendicular to the measurement surface.
* Make sure to install the tip of the dial indicator towards the outside of the rear axle hub bolt.
* Keep the magnet of the dial indicator away from the rear axle hub and bearing (rear speed sensor).

HINT
If the runout exceeds the maximum, replace the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

16. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Replacement

17. CONNECT NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY Installation

18. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE

19. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL ASSEMBLY Installation

20. INSTALL COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH Installation

21. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH Installation

22. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

Torque : 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf)

23. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

(a) Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

(b) Connect the reservoir level switch connector.

(c) Clear the DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

26. INSTALL REAR NO. 2 FLOOR BOARD (for Separate Type) Installation
