Oil Pan Replacement
Removal Procedure
Important: Do not raise the engine by the crankshaft balancer to perform this service procedure. Damage to the crankshaft balancer or the crankshaft may occur.
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Engine) Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Engine)Battery Cable Replacement (Positive Cable) Service and RepairBattery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Frame) Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Frame) in Engine Electrical.
Remove the oil level indicator and tube from the engine. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement Service and Repair.
Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair in General Information.
Drain the crankcase. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement Service and Repair.
2. Remove the starter from the engine block. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (LP4/L21) Starter Motor Replacement (LP4/L21)Starter Motor Replacement (LG5) Starter Motor Replacement (LG5) in Engine Electrical.
3. Remove the flywheel inspection cover if equipped.
4. Remove the oil cooler line retainer from the retaining bracket. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement in Engine Cooling.
Important: DO NOT lift the engine by the crankshaft balancer to aide in removing the oil pan from the engine block. Damage to crankshaft balancer or crankshaft could occur.
5. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
* For the manual transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement Service and Repair in Transmission/Transaxle.
* For the automatic transmission. Remove the clutch if equipped. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.
6. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement Service and Repair.
7. Remove the oil pan bolts from the engine block.
8. Remove the oil pan from the vehicle.
9. Remove the oil pan gasket from the engine block.
10. Remove the oil from the sealing surfaces.
Installation Procedure
Important: The oil pan gasket is reusable. Replace only if the gasket is damaged.
1. Install the oil pan gasket on the oil pan.
2. Install the oil pan gasket and oil pan to the engine block.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
3. Install the oil pan bolts to the engine block.
Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
4. Install the clutch assembly to the flywheel. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement Clutch Assembly Replacement in Clutch.
5. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement Service and Repair.
6. Install flywheel inspection cover to the transmission.
7. Install the transmission in the vehicle.
* For the automatic transmission. 8. Install the starter to the engine block. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (LP4/L21) Starter Motor Replacement (LP4/L21)Starter Motor Replacement (LG5) Starter Motor Replacement (LG5) in Engine Electrical.
9. Install oil cooler line to the retainers. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement in Engine Cooling.
10. Install the oil level indicator and tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement Service and Repair.Install the oil level indicator and tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement Service and Repair.
11. Fill the crankcase with new engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement Service and Repair.
12. Connect the battery negative cables to the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Engine) Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Engine)Battery Cable Replacement (Positive Cable) Service and RepairBattery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Frame) Battery Cable Replacement (Negative Cable to Frame) in Engine Electrical.
