Ignition Coil: Service and Repair
Ignition Coil with Power Output Stage
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Ignition Coil Puller (T40039)
• Follow all safety precautions. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Safety Precautions.
• To pull off the spark plug, place the ignition coil puller (T40039) on the topmost thick rib - arrow - of the ignition coil with power output stage.
• The lower ribs may be damaged if they are used.
Removing the Right Ignition Coil with Power Output Stage (Bank 1):
- Remove the engine compartment cover. Refer to => [ Engine Compartment Cover ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the engine cover - 2 - upward.
- Remove the hose - 1 -, the clamps - arrows - and the intake air duct.
- Press the release buttons - 1 - and remove the secondary air intake hose - 2 -.
- Open the clips - arrows - and remove the upper air filter housing.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - and disconnect the connectors from the ignition coils with power output stages.
- Remove the ignition coils with power output stages using the ignition coil puller (T40039).
Removing the Left Ignition Coil with Power Output Stage (Bank 2):
Hybrid vehicles have a high voltage system! Danger of electrical shock! Visually inspect all of the high-voltage components throughout the working area before starting work. Follow all general warning.
- Unclip the high voltage cables - arrows -.
- Remove the bolts - arrows -.
- Squeeze the connector retainers - arrows - and disconnect the connectors - 1 - from the ignition coils with power output stages.
- If necessary, push the high voltage cables to the side and remove the ignition coils with power output stages using the ignition coil puller (T40039).
Installing
- Install all the ignition coils loosely onto the spark plug shaft.
- Line up the ignition coils and push them all the way onto the spark plugs.
Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
