Engine Oil: Service and Repair
1NZ-FE LUBRICATION: OIL AND OIL FILTER (for Hatchback): REPLACEMENT
CAUTION:
* Prolonged and repeated contact with engine oil will result in the removal of natural oils from the skin, leading to dryness, irritation and dermatitis. Used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may cause skin cancer.
* Take precautions when replacing engine oil to minimize the risk of your skin making contact with used engine oil. Wear protective clothing and gloves that cannot be penetrated by oil. Wash skin with soap and water, or use waterless hand cleaner, to completely remove any used engine oil. Do not use gasoline, thinner, or solvents.
* Dispose of used oil and used oil filters at designated disposal sites in order to preserve the environment.
1. DRAIN ENGINE OIL
(a) Remove the oil filler cap.
(b) Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil.
(c) Clean the drain plug.
(d) Install the drain plug with a new gasket.
Torque : 38 Nm (382 kgf-cm, 28 ft-lbf)
2. REMOVE OIL FILTER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Using SST, remove the oil filter.

3. INSTALL OIL FILTER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Clean the oil filter installation surface.
(b) Apply engine oil to the oil filter gasket.
(c) Lightly screw the oil filter into the engine until the oil filter does not turn.
(d) Using SST, tighten the oil filter an additional 3/4 turn.
SST : 09228-06501
Torque : 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf)
4. ADD ENGINE OIL
(a) Add fresh engine oil.
