Camshaft Roller Follower

Camshaft Roller Follower

Removal and Installation

NOTICE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.

1. NOTE: If servicing both the RH and LH cylinder head camshaft roller followers, the LH valve cover procedure must be completed prior to the RH valve cover procedure.

Depending on which cylinder head is being serviced, remove the RH or LH valve cover. For additional information, refer to Valve Cover - RH Valve Cover - RH or Valve Cover - LH Valve Cover - LH.

2. NOTE: If the engine is difficult to rotate while positioning the piston to the bottom of the cylinder, remove the spark plugs.

Position the camshaft lobe at base circle.

3. NOTICE: If the roller followers are to be reinstalled, they must be installed in their original positions. Mark the roller followers for installation into their original locations. Failure to follow these instructions may result in engine damage.

Using the Valve Spring Compressor, compress the valve spring and remove the roller follower.

4. Repeat the previous 2 steps to remove each of the roller followers.
- Inspect the roller followers. For additional information, refer to Engine System - General Information Service and Repair.

5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Lubricate each of the roller followers with clean engine oil prior to installation.
