Quick Tests

T1- Perform Visual Inspection
- Check for insufficient brake fluid, leaks, damaged wheel speed sensors or rotors and damaged hydraulic actuator assembly.
- Check the anti-lock brake (ABS) system wiring harness for improper connections, bent or broken pins, corrosion, loose wires and proper routing.
- Check Fuses 7(10A), 15(10A) and 9(15A) for proper connection or damage.
- Check the anti-lock brake control module for physical damage.
- Are all of the components OK?
YES
- Go to T2.
NO - Service the faulty components. then go to T2.

T2- Perform Vehicle Preparation
Perform all of the following safety steps required to run ABS Quick Test.
- Apply the parking brake and block the drive wheels.
- Place the selector lever firmly into the "PARK" position.
- Turn "OFF" all of the electrical loads.
- A/C - Heater blower fans
- Lamps - Radios
- Rear Window Defroster, etc.
- Have all of the safety steps been performed and all of the electrical loads been turned "OFF"?
YES
- Go to T3.
NO - Personal safety and correct diagnostic results are dependent on Test Step T2. Do not proceed if vehicle preparation cannot be performed.

T3- Check Anti-Lock Warning Indicator
- Turn ignition switch to "RUN" and observe the anti-lock warning indicator.
- Does the anti-lock warning indicator illuminate for a few seconds or stay "ON"?
YES
- Go to T4.
NO - Go to Pinpoint Test F. F No ABS Indicator

T4- Check Anti-Lock Warning Indicator With Engine Running
- Start the engine.

NOTE: Certain ABS DTCs require the vehicle be driven in order for the warning indicator to come "ON". Other DTCs will cause the warning indicator to turn "ON" each time the engine is started.

- Drive the vehicle if necessary. Refer to above NOTE.
- Observe the anti-lock warning indicator.
- Does the anti-lock warning indicator illuminate. continuously?
YES
- A present failure is indicated. Go to T5.
NO - Normal operation. If an ABS symptom exists, there may be an intermittent problem. Go to T5. If no ABS symptoms exist, ABS system is operating normally. Go to Brake - Diagnosis by Symptom. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures

T5- Perform ABS Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) Retrieval
- Retrieve DTCs. Refer to DTC Code Retrieval/Erasure. [1][2]Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
- Did anti-lock Brake warning indicator flash ?
YES
- Record code(s). Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code Index and perform the specified pinpoint test for the first code retrieved. After all DTC have been retrieved, erase stored DTCs.
NO - Go to Pinpoint Test F. F No ABS Indicator
