With Manufacturer's Scan Tool

NOTE: Ford DOES NOT provide procedures to retrieve or clear trouble codes without the New Generation Star (NGS) tester.

RETRIEVING WITH SCAN TOOL - Using Rotunda Super Star Tester II or Equivalent
1. Turn ignition switch to "OFF" position.
2. Locate ABS diagnostic terminal on the engine compartment power distribution panel.

ABS Diagnostic Connector:

3. Connect Rotunda Super Star II Tester 007-0041B or equivalent connector to the ABS diagnostic Connector C143.

NOTE: During the reading of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), the diagnostics will be discontinued and the control module will return to normal operation if:
- The vehicle travels over 24 km/h (15 mph).
- Control module senses ungrounded diagnostic connector for more than 15 seconds.
- Ignition switch is cycled.

4. Turn on tester and latch button down in "TEST" position. Make sure tester is in "SLOW" mode.
5. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" (engine "OFF"). The DTCs will begin to flash. The control module will store a maximum of three DTCs. if any DTCs have been detected, each code will be flashed out once and only once after entering the diagnostic mode.
6. If no DTCs are stored, a DTC 12 will be output.
7. If one or more DTCs are stored, Code 12 will not flash. The system will immediately start flashing the stored DTCs.
8. After all DTCs have been output, the ABS warning indicator will remain on until the ignition switch is cycled.

RETRIEVING WITHOUT SCAN TOOL - Using anti-lock warning indicator:

ABS Diagnostic Connector:

- Turn ignition switch to "OFF".
- Jumper Pin C143-2, circuit 836, of the ABS diagnostic connector to ground, circuit 57.
- Key ON.

NOTE: The DTC will begin to flash immediately without introduction and flash a code only once. Ignition switch cycling can repeat DTCs if numbers are missed, as long as vehicle has not been driven.

Anti-lock Warning Lamp Codes:

- Observe the anti-lock warning indicator and count the number of Warning lamp flashes.

ERASING
- After all DTCs have been retrieved, remove scan tool.
- Cycle ignition switch "ON" then "OFF".
- Start vehicle and drive to more than 24 km/h (15 mph). The stored DTCs will be erased.
- After the DTCs have been erased, perform the Quick Test.
