INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TEST
For a complete wiring diagram, refer to the Wiring Information Electrical Diagrams
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
NOTE: Use the following test to check all gauges and most warning indicators in the Instrument Cluster and the Gauge Cluster.
1. Perform the Instrument Cluster Self- Test.Instrument Cluster Self Diagnostics
2. Turn the ignition off.
3. Press and hold the Trip Reset button.
4. Turn the ignition on.
5. Release the Trip Reset button as the Self-Test begins.
6. The Self-Test performs the following sequence:
7. Illuminate in the LCD: "DOOR AJAR" and "DOOR UNLOCKED" in the LCD.
8. Illuminate in the LCD: all digits (All 0's, all 1's, etc.) and the decimal in the LCD.
9. Illuminate in the LCD: last 6 digits of the VIN.
10. Illuminate in the LCD: software version (for example SOF 1.6).
11. Sweep the Instrument Cluster gauge pointers simultaneously:
12. Tachometer: 3000, 5000, 6000
13. Speedometer: 40 mph (80 km/h), 60 mph (120 km/h), 100 mph (160 km/h), 220 mph (340 km/h)
14. Fuel: E, 1/4, 1/2, F
15. Sweep the Gauge Cluster gauge pointers simultaneously:
16. Coolant Temperature: 140°F (60°C), 200°F (90°C), 260°F (120°C), Temp Critical
17. Volts: 10V, 12V, 14V
18. Oil Pressure: 40 PSI (280 kPa), 60 PSI (415 kPa), 80 PSI (560 kPa)
19. Oil Temperature: 180°F (120°C), 240°F (160°C), 300°F (Temp Critical)
20. Illuminate all learned and standard warning indicators and LCD warnings (except Skip Shift, Turn signals, and High Beam) for approximately 5 seconds:
21. Toggle illumination between Amber and Red Skip Shift indicators.
NOTE: If the Instrument Cluster passes the Self-Test and there is a problem with the Gauge Cluster, refer to the symptom *GAUGE CLUSTER TESTING. Gauge Cluster Diagnostic Test
Did the gauges pause at the proper calibration points and all warning indicators illuminate?
Yes
- Diagnose and repair any BCM, Communication, ABS, ACM, or PCM DTCs. Refer to the General Information for control module PCI Bus data information. If no DTC exists in the controlling module, replace the Instrument Cluster.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test
No
- Replace the Instrument Cluster. If the Instrument Cluster passes the Self-Test but there is a problem with the Gauge Cluster, refer the symptom *GAUGE CLUSTER TESTING. Gauge Cluster Diagnostic Test
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Body Verification Test
