Power Take-Off Drive Chain






Power Take-Off Drive Chain

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Socket (T40058)

Locking Pin (T40071)

Removing

Engine remove, transmission separated from the engine. Refer to => [ Engine and Transmission, Separating ] Engine and Transmission, Separating.

Secure the engine to the scissor lift platform (VAS 6131 A) or to an engine/transmission holder. Refer to => [ Engine, Securing to Engine and Transmission Holder ] Engine, Securing to Engine and Transmission Holder.

- Insert the (T40058) guide pins as follows:





Small diameter - arrow 1 - points to engine.

Large diameter - arrow 2 - points to socket.

- Turn the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation - arrow - to TDC using the (T40058).





- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the engine.





- Remove the locking bolt - arrow - for the TDC marking from the suction module.

- Install the crankshaft holder (3242) into the groove - 1 - to 20 Nm. If necessary, move the crankshaft back and forth slightly to center the bolt.





- Remove timing chain lower cover. Refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] Lower Timing Chain Cover.





CAUTION!
Risk of destroying due to reversed running direction on a used drive chain.

Mark the drive chain running direction with arrows using paint for installation later. Do not mark the drive chain with a punch, notch or something similar.

- Press the tensioning rail in the direction of the - arrow - and secure it with a (T40071).

- Remove the bolt - 1 - and the power take-off drive chain.

- Remove the bolts - 2, 3 and 4 - and the chain tensioner.

- Remove the power take-off drive chain.

Installing

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Power Take-Off Drive Chain Assembly Overview ] Power Take-Off Drive Chain Assembly Overview.

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

Replace the gasket.

- Mount the power take-off drive chain so that it matches up with the markings made earlier during removal.





- Install the chain tensioner and tighten the bolts - 2, 3 and 4 -.

- Mount the drive chain on the power take-off drive chain sprocket and tighten the bolt - 1 -.

The rest of the installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

- Tighten the locking bolt for the TDC marking with a new seal - 16 - => [ Plug ] Crankshaft Assembly Overview.

- Install timing chain lower cover. Refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] Lower Timing Chain Cover.
