Balance Shaft
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Locating Pins (T40116)
Removing
• The transmission is removed.
• Engine oil drained.
CAUTION!
Risk of injury.
• The lock carrier must be installed and the torque support must be securely attached.
- Remove the belt pulley side sealing flange. Refer to => [ Sealing Flange with Crankshaft Seal, Belt Pulley Side ] Service and Repair.
- Remove timing chain lower cover. Refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] Lower Timing Chain Cover.
- Remove the power take-off drive chain. Refer to => [ Power Take-Off Drive Chain ] Power Take-Off Drive Chain.
- Secure the rear balance weight - 1 - to the engine using the (T40116).
- Remove bolt - 2 - and remove balance weight from the balance shaft.
- Remove the bolt - 2 - while counter holding the balance weight using the drift and remove the balance weight - 1 - from balance shaft at the front of the engine.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the balance shaft and bearing end bracket at the rear of the engine.
- Remove the balance shaft back out of the cylinder block.
Installing
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Balance Shaft Assembly Overview ] Balance Shaft Assembly Overview or => [ Marking Locking Bolt - Tightening
Specification ] Oil Pan Upper and Lower Sections, Oil Pump and Oil Cooler Assembly Overview.
• Secure crankshaft - 1 - in "TDC" position using (T40069).
Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:
• The balance weights can only be positioned one way on balance shaft.
- Install the power take-off drive chain. Refer to => [ Power Take-Off Drive Chain ] Power Take-Off Drive Chain.
- Install timing chain lower cover. Refer to => [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] Lower Timing Chain Cover.
- Install the belt pulley side sealing flange. Refer to => [ Sealing Flange with Crankshaft Seal, Belt Pulley Side ] Service and Repair.
