Preparatory work
Removing the left-hand engine pad
Remove the left-hand engine pad. See: Engine support insulator left Engine Support Insulator Left.
Removal
Removing the gear selector cables from the transmission
Lower the engine / transmission slightly.
Remove:
- the ball joints. Use: 999 7077 Jimmy bar 999 7077 Jimmy Bar
- the sleeves for the gear selector cables from the transmission cable bracket.
Removing transmission tunnel components
Remove:
- the 4 plastic nuts
- the mounting for the muffler
- the nut behind the three-way catalytic converter (TWC).
Note! Be careful with the heat shield so that it is not deformed.
Move the heat shield backwards. This will make the entrance for the gear selector cables into the passenger compartment visible.
Remove the gear selector cables from the clip in the transmission tunnel.
Removing the gear selector cables from the gear selector assembly
Remove the cables from the gear selector assembly. See: Gear selector assembly Gear Selector Assembly.
Removing the cable lead-in
Fold the carpet out of the way on both sides of the center console. The lead-in for the gear selector cables is on the floor, in front of the heater unit.
Hint: The insulation panel can be torn at the gear selector cable's lead-through. Take out the insulation panel in "two parts", an upper and a lower.
Remove the sound insulation panel.
Hint: Use a ring wrench with a lock function.
Remove the 2 nuts for the gear selector cable lead-in from either side of the center console. Unhook the lead-in from the studs in the floor.
Removing the gear selector cables
Remove the gear selector cables.
Installation

Caution! When installing the cables, make sure that there are no sharp bends or kinks in the cable, especially between the inner cable and outer casing.
Installing the gear selector cables
Place the cables in position through the floor, up to the transmission.
Installing the cable lead-in
Install the two M6 nuts for the gear selector lever lead-in. Tighten.
Note! If the sound insulation panel is split, tape it together. Make sure that the parts are correctly located.
Install:
- the sound insulation panel
- the floor carpets.
Installing the gear selector cables in gear selector assembly
Install the gear selector cables on the gear selector assembly. See: Gear selector assembly Gear Selector Assembly.
Installing components in transmission tunnel
Note! Route the cables as illustrated.
Install the gear selector cables in the clip in the transmission tunnel.
Note! Be careful with the heat shield so that it is not deformed.
Install:
- the heat shield
- the 4 plastic nuts
- the mounting for the muffler
- the nut behind the three-way catalytic converter (TWC).
Installing the right-hand gear selector cable in the transmission
Install the right-hand gear selector cable in the bracket. Press the ball joint into place.
Installing the left-hand gear selector cable in the transmission
