Rear wheel sensor, replacement
Preparations
The ignition must be switched off.
Remove the protective cap for the fuel filter (if working on the left).
Disconnect the connector.
Remove the sensor cable from the two supports
Removing wheel hub
Remove
- the hub cap and the wheel.
- the brake caliper and the brake disc, see operation Replacement of rear brake disc Brake Disc Rear, Replacing.
- the hub cap and the retaining nut.
- the hub.
Removing the rear wheel sensor
Note! Carefully clean the sensor and the connector before they are removed.
Remove
- the sensor cable from the support.
- the mounting bolts and the sensor.
Installing rear wheel sensor
Clean the sensor seat of dirt and rust so that the sensor is in the correct position relative to the pulse wheel. Clean the pulse wheel using a soft brush.
Lightly grease the sensor. Clean the mounting surfaces so that the sensor can be fitted easily.
Thread the sensor cable through and install the sensor. Tightening torque 55 Nm.
Press the sensor cable into the support.
Installing wheel hub
Clean the stub axle and the hub.
Position the hub on the wheel spindle.
Install a new nut.
- Tightening torque:
- -'97 175 Nm.
- '98- 1 stage 120 Nm.
2 stage + 30° turn
Install
- the hub cap
- the brake disc and caliper, see operation Replacement of rear brake disc Brake Disc Rear, Replacing.
- the wheel, see operation Brake pads rear, replacement Brake Pads Rear, Replacing.
Connecting the rear wheel sensor
Thread the sensor cable to the front and connect it to the connector.
Press the sensor cable into the supports.
Install protective cap (if working on the left side).
Checking correct operation of ABS system
Read out the DTCs.
Carry out a test-drive and check whether the ABS warning light goes out.
Read out and check whether there are any DTCs stored.
