Brake Disc Rear, Replacing

Preparations
Remove the hub cap and wheel.

Remove the rear brake disc

Remove:
- the brake pads, see operation Brake pads rear, replacement Brake Pads Rear, Replacing.
- the caliper holder assembly, including the caliper. Suspend it with a piece of wire so that the brake hose will not be damaged.
- the retaining bolt and the brake disc.

Note! Do not depress the brake pedal when the brake pads have been removed.

Cleaning and inspecting the brake disc and hub

Note! Cleaning is important for the prevention of brake disc wobble (lateral runout).

Check that the hub flange is clean.
Remove rust with steel wool or a wire brush.
Inspect the hub.
If the hub is damaged, measure its lateral runout. See Measuring lateral runout in hub (front/rear) Testing and Inspection.

Fitting the rear brake disc

Note! Exercise care when handling the new brake disc. Careless handling could result in damage, such as skewness.

Fit the new brake disc on the hub. Tighten the retaining bolt to 5 Nm.

Fit
- the caliper holder assembly, including the caliper; use new bolts. Tighten to 55 Nm.
- the brake pads, see operation Brake pads rear, replacement Brake Pads Rear, Replacing.
Check the parking brake as necessary, see operation Adjusting the parking brake Adjustments.
Fit the wheel, see operation Brake pads rear, replacement Brake Pads Rear, Replacing.
