Crankshaft - Installation

INSTALLATION





1. Install clean upper main bearing shells into clean engine block (1).

NOTE: Make sure that the bearing tangs are seated in the machined groove in the caps and block.

2. Lubricate upper main bearing shells with clean engine oil.
3. Install the clean crankshaft.
4. Install clean lower main bearing shells (2) into clean main bearing caps.
5. Lubricate lower main bearing shells with clean engine oil.





6. Install each main bearing cap in proper sequence and direction. Tighten all bolts finger tight.
7. Tighten main bearing cap bolts 1-12 in the sequence shown to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
8. To ensure correct thrust bearing alignment move crankshaft all the way to the rear of its travel.
9. Then, move crankshaft all the way to the front of its travel. Wedge an appropriate tool between the rear of the cylinder block and rear crankshaft counterweight to hold the crankshaft in its forward position.
10. Tighten main bearing cap bolts 1-12 to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
11. Tighten main bearing cap bolts 1-12 to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
12. Rotate main bearing cap bolts an additional 50°.





13. Tighten main bearing cap side bolts 1-12 to 13 Nm (115 in. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
14. Tighten main bearing cap side bolts 1-12 to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
15. Rotate main bearing cap side bolts 1-12 an additional 45°.
16. Remove the crankshaft holding tool.
17. Install new connecting rod bearings in to clean connecting rods.

19. Install the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer (2)Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Retainer - Installation.





20. Tighten rear seal adapter retaining bolts to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
21. Install timing chain Timing Chain & Sprockets - Installation.
22. Install timing chain cover Engine Timing Cover(s) - Installation.





23. Install the crankshaft oil scraper (1) with the arrow (2) pointing towards the front of the engine. Tighten nuts to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.).





24. Install swinging oil pick-upEngine Oil Pan - Installation.
25. Install oil pan and gasketEngine Oil Pan - Installation.
26. Install crankshaft damper and pulley Vibration Damper - Installation.
27. Install engine assembly Engine - Installation.
