Instrument Panel - Removal







REMOVAL

WARNING: Follow all Warnings for airbag component service. Service Precautions.

1. Open deck lid.
2. Remove four bolts to battery compartment cover and remove cover.
3. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
4. Wait two minutes for the airbag system reserve capacitor to discharge before beginning any airbag system or instrument panel component service.
5. Remove the cluster bezel. Instrument Panel Cluster Bezel - Removal
6. Using a trim stick or equivalent, gently pry up on the left sill plate.
7. Remove one screw and two push pins to left cowl kick panel and remove panel from vehicle.
8. Remove the steering column opening cover. Steering Column Opening Cover - Removal

CAUTION: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate once the column is removed. If the wheel is rotated it could damage the clock spring within the steering column.

9. Remove two screws to upper and lower steering column shrouds.




10. Disconnect five steering column electrical connectors.
11. Loosen steering column pinch bolt.
12. Remove four steering column retaining nuts and remove column from vehicle.

CAUTION: The brake lamp switch can only be adjusted once. That is during initial installation of the switch. If the switch is not adjusted properly or has been removed for some service, a new switch must be installed and adjusted.





13. Disconnect the brake lamp switch.
14. Disconnect the pedal servo electrical connector.




15. Disconnect left side instrument panel electrical connectors ground wires.




16. Remove ground wire nuts (1) at left floor tunnel.




17. Remove one bolt and one nut to the left brace to instrument panel.




18. Remove two retaining bolts to instrument panel at steering column opening.
19. Remove one screw to left A-pillar trim and using a trim stick or equivalent, gently pry off and remove trim from vehicle.
20. Using a trim stick (special tool #C-4755) or equivalent, gently pry up on left instrument panel speaker grille and remove grille from vehicle.
21. Disconnect electrical connector at left A-piller.
22. Using a trim stick or equivalent, gently pry up on the right sill plate and remove sill plate from vehicle.
23. Using a trim stick or equivalent, gently pry out on right cowl kick panel and remove panel from vehicle.
24. Reach up underneath the instrument panel and disconnect the passenger airbag electrical connector.




25. Disconnect the three right side electrical connectors and one ground bolt.
26. Remove the right side instrument panel retaining bolts.
27. Using a trim stick or equivalent, gently pry off A-pillar trim and remove trim from vehicle.
28. Using a trim stick or equivalent, gently pry up on right instrument panel speaker grille and remove grille from vehicle.




29. Disconnect the radio antenna connector.
30. Remove four screws and disconnect electrical connectors to radio and remove from vehicle.
31. Disconnect the occupant restraint controller ground wires.
32. Disconnect the two occupant restraint controller electrical connectors.
33. Remove the wiper module. Wiper Module - Removal
34. Remove four screws to the HVAC exterior intake plenum and remove from vehicle.
35. Remove two bolts and one nut and ground wire at the wiper cowl.




36. Remove ten nuts to instrument panel in engine compartment.
37. With the help of an assistant, carefully remove instrument panel and place on bench.
