Engine - Removal







REMOVAL - ENGINE





1. Remove the engine covers (1).
2. Perform the Fuel System Pressure Release procedure . Fuel Pressure Release
3. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
4. Remove the air cleaner assembly and duct work Air Cleaner Housing - Removal.
5. Remove the cowl top panel . Cowl Moulding / Trim.
6. Drain cooling system . Service and Repair
7. Remove the coolant recovery container . Service and Repair
8. Remove the accessory drive belt . Removal and Replacement
9. Remove radiator fan . Service and Repair




10. Remove the A/C compressor (3).. Service and Repair
11. Remove the A/C suction line .
12. Remove the A/C liquid line from extention lines and set aside .
13. Remove the A/C discharge line at compressor and set aside .




14. Remove the generator support bracket (1).




15. Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses.
16. Remove the right and left knock sensors.
17. Disconnect all oxygen sensors.
18. Remove the oil temperature sensor connector.
19. Remove the oil pressure sensor connector.
20. Remove the camshaft position sensor connector.
21. Remove generator (2) . Service and Repair




22. Connect the right side heater hose (1).




23. Remove the fuel injector connectors.
24. Remove the map sensor connector.
25. Remove the coolant temp sensor connector . Service and Repair
26. Remove the ignition coil connectors.
27. Remove the diode connector and ground.
28. Remove the intake manifold and IAFM as an assemblyIntake Manifold - Removal.
29. Remove the ground wires from the rear of each cylinder head.
30. Connect the left side heater hose (1).




NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect P/S hoses from pump, for P/S pump removal.

31. Remove the power steering pump and set aside . Service and Repair
32. Disconnect the fuel supply line .
33. Remove the right and left side engine wiring harness, and set aside.
34. Raise and support the vehicle on a hoist and drain the engine oil.
35. Remove the crankshaft position sensor connector.
36. Remove the belly pan (2) . Service and Repair
37. Remove engine front mount to frame nuts.




38. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines from their retainers at the oil pan bolts.
39. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifolds . Removal and Replacement
40. Disconnect the starter wires. Remove starter motor (1) . Service and Repair




41. Remove the torque converter access cover (1).




42. Remove drive plate to converter bolts (1) .




43. Remove the transmission to oil pan bolts (1) .




44. Remove transmission bell housing to engine block bolts (2) .




45. Lower the vehicle.
46. Remove the left coolant tube.

NOTE: Do not use air tools to install engine lift fixture.

47. Install engine lift fixture (2), special tool # 8984 and 8984-UPD (4).
48. Separate engine from transmission, remove engine from vehicle, and install engine assembly on a repair stand.
