Operational Checks - Electric Air Pump

AIR System (Type 2 - Electric Air Pump - Without V08 Option):

ENERGIZING ELECTRIC AIR PUMP
Selecting "Field Service Mode" on the scan tool or grounding the diagnostic "test" terminal with the ignition "ON" and engine not running will energize the electric air pump.

NOTE: Do not keep the diagnostic "test" terminal grounded for more than 2 minutes, as damage to the electric pump may occur.

While the pump is enabled check for air going to the exhaust ports. If air is directed to the exhaust ports, the air pump is operating satisfactorily. If no air was felt, refer to System Diagnosis/Procedures/Diagnostic Charts/Chart C-6B Secondary Air System Check - Electric Air Pump. Chart C-6B Secondary Air System Check - Electric Air Pump

Important: The secondary air injection system is not completely noiseless. To determine if excessive noise is the fault of the air injection system, operate the engine with the electric air pump disconnected.

Inspect
1. For a seized electric air pump.
2. Hoses, tubes and all connections for leaks and proper routing.
3. AIR pump for proper mounting.

HOSES AND PIPES
Inspect
1. Hoses or pipes for deterioration or holes.
2. All hoses or pipe connections, and clamp tightness.
3. Hose or pipe routing. Interference may cause wear.
4. If a leak is suspected on the pressure side of the system or if a hose or pipe has been disconnected on the pressure side, the connections should be checked for leaks with a soapy water solution if a hose or pipe has been disconnected on the pressure side, the connections should be checked for leaks with a soapy water solution. With the AIR pump running, bubbles will form if a leak exists.
