Chart C-6B Secondary Air System Check - Electric Air Pump
Air Injection Diagnostic Chart.:
Type 2 - AIR Injection Wiring - With Electric Air Pump:
CIRCUIT OPERATION
During cold starts, above 20°C (68°F), the Engine Control Module (ECM) completes the ground circuit and the air pump is energized. Air is directed to the exhaust port whenever the engine is started. Whenever the fuel system goes into closed loop, engine coolant temperature exceeds 60°C (140°F) or engine speed exceeds 2000 rpm, the ECM will open the ground to the air pump relay and the air pump will be disabled.
TEST DESCRIPTION
1. The ECM should energize the air pump when engine coolant is between 20°C (68°F) and 60°C (140°F) and fuel system in not in "Closed loop". If any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present the ECM will not energize the AIR pump.
2. The ECM should de-energize the air pump relay when engine speed exceeds 2000 rpm.
3. Air pump relay is located near the cooling fan relay center.
4. Selecting "Field Service Mode" on a scanner or grounding the diagnostic "Test" terminal at the Data Link Connector (DLC) with the ignition "ON" and the engine not running should illuminate the test light is CKT 1329 is OK.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
1. Fuse number 18 is located in the underhood relay center.
2. Do not keep the diagnostic "Test" terminal grounded for more than 2 minutes, as damage to the electric air pump may occur.
