Secondary Air Injection Combination Valves, Checking for Function and Leaks
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hand Vacuum Pump (VAS 6213)
Procedure
- Install protective body covers. Refer to => [ Protective Body Covers, Installing ] Procedures.
- R8 Spyder: Remove the service flap.
- Remove the air filter housing.
- Remove the vacuum hose - 2 - from the secondary air injection combination valve.
- Remove the secondary air hose - 4 - by pressing the release buttons.
• The illustration shows the left secondary air combination valve.
• For better accessibility, remove the hose in the R8 Spyder at the secondary air injection pump instead of the combination valve.
• Ignore - 1, 3 and 5 -.
- Connect the (VAS 6213) to the vacuum connection - 1 - on the secondary air combination valve that will be tested.
- Connect a suitable assisting hose to the secondary air combination valve - 2 -.
- Blow lightly into the assisting hose by mouth, do not use compressed air.
• Secondary air injection combination valve must be closed, it must not be possible to flush.
- Run the hand vacuum pump to generate a vacuum.
• The Secondary air injection combination valve must open, it must be possible to flush.
- Replace the secondary air injection combination valve if it does not react as described. Refer to => [ Secondary Air Injection Left Combination Valve ] Secondary Air Injection Left Combination Valve and => [ Secondary Air Injection Right Combination Valve ] Secondary Air Injection Right Combination Valve.
Assembly is in reverse order of removal, note the following:
- Install air filter housing.
- Install the service flap.
- Install the engine compartment trim.
