Preparatory work
Removal
Disconnect the battery negative cable. See: Battery, disconnecting Battery Disconnecting.
Remove the valve covers. See: Valve cover/gasket, replacing, B8444S Service and Repair.
Measuring
Measuring valve clearance
Note! Measurements must only be taken on a cold engine. Suitable temperature is approximately 20 °C/68°F.
Caution! Only turn the crankshaft in normal rotational direction (clockwise).
Turn the crankshaft until the cam lobe is 180 ° to the valve lifter.
Measure the valve clearance between the camshaft and the valve lifter. Use: 999 5752 Feeler gauge 999 5752 Feeler Gauge.Note the measurement.
Repeat the procedure for the other camshaft lobes. Note the measurements.
If needed, adjust the valve clearance, see: Valve clearance, setting/adjusting, B8444S Valve Clearance, Setting/Adjusting
