Oil, quality check

Check the oil

Note! Oil grade:Only ATF oil, Volvo P/N 1161540-8 (1 liter containers) may be used.

Warning! Avoid skin contact with the transmission fluid.

Check the oil. Take a sample with the dipstick.
Is the oil discolored or does it smell burnt?
- Check whether diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) TCM 0042 or TCM 0046 are stored
- Also fault-trace the transmission for diagnostic trouble code (DTC) TCM-0046
- When changing the oil, see Changing Oil.
Is there water in the oil (gray discoloration)?
- Determine the cause of the water in the oil
- Replace the transmission

Flush the oil cooler, pipes and oil hoses
Only ATF oil, Volvo P/N 1161540-8 may be used.
