Windshield washer / wiper mechanism and motor

Preparations for removing windshield wiper mechanism




- Turn on ignition.
- Check that the wiper motor is in the parked position.
Switch the windshield wipers on and off.
If the wiper motor is not functioning, see instructions Replacing the windshield wiper motor.
- Switch off the ignition.

Replacing the windshield wiper motor

Removing the windshield wiper motor




- Remove the two mounting screws for the fusebox and slide the fusebox forward slightly, (only applies to right hand drive cars).
- Remove cover.
- Disconnect the connector.
- Remove the mounting screws (x4) from the wiper motor mounting plate.
- Lift the mounting plate slightly from the chassis and release the link mechanism (press off the drive mechanism ball using a large screwdriver).
- Remove the motor.




- Mark the position of the control arm position on the mounting plate.
- Remove the control arm mounting nut (A).
- Remove the wiper motor 3 x mounting screws (B).

Installing the windshield wiper motor




- Apply greasem 1161037-5, on the inside of the rubber.
- Install the wiper motor and tighten the mounting screw (3 x).
- Connect the connector.

Hint: Activate the wiper motor once. Check that the motor stopped in the parked position.

- Install the control arm according to the markings.
- Tighten the nut to 20 Nm. Use a 20 mm U-wrench to secure the control arm when the nut is pulled out.
- Check the wiper motor function by rotating it a number of times.
- Press the drive mechanism ball into position using a large screwdriver and reinstall the motor with the mounting plate, 4 x mounting screws.
- Install the cover.

Replacing the windshield wiper shaft and / or the link rod




- Remove the wiper arms, see section Windshield wiper arm Removal and Replacement.
- Remove the cover, 7 x screws.
- Remove the panel.

Note! Inside the panel there are 4 clips.




- Release the control mechanism (press off the drive mechanism ball with a large screwdriver).
- Remove the mounting nuts (x 6) from the windscreen wiper shafts.
- Remove the assembly. Replace the control arms and /or shafts.
- Grease the ball joints (grease P/N 1161037-5).
- Install the assembly. Tighten the nut to 10 Nm.

Hint: Ensure that the turn points under the shafts are correctly located!

- Install the panel (7 x mounting screws).
- Install the wiper arm, see section Windshield wiper arm Removal and Replacement.
- Check the function.
