Adjusting gear selector cable

Preparations

Removing




Park car on level surface. Do not set parking brake.
Make a note of the anti-theft radio code.
Remove:
- Battery
- Air cleaner (ACL) housing
- Battery shelf

Disconnecting transmission cable




Remove:
- Retaining clip and washer on lever
- Nuts on cable bracket.
- Transmission cable from lever
- Unhook cable from clip on the connector bracket.

Adjusting the transmission cable

Move the gear selector to position R

Note! Ensure that the transmission cable can move freely in the engine compartment.

Setting R position




Push the lever on the gear-shift position sensor forward to position P.

Note! Do not move the transmission cable. The position of the transmission cable must not be altered.

Check P by trying to roll the car.
Move the lever to the next position, R.
Apply a little grease 1161241-3 to the lever pin.

Note! Do not change the position of the lever.

Installing the gear selector cable




Carefully reinstall the cable on the lever pin and studs.
Ensure that neither the gear selector or lever change position!
Tighten nuts alternately lightly. Then tighten to: 25 Nm.
Install the washer and the retaining clip on the lever.
Install the cable in the clip on the connector bracket.

Check
Move the gear selector to position N. Push the lever forward without touching the lock button. The play must be noticeable.
Move the gear selector to position D. Push the lever backwards without touching the lock button. The play must be noticeable.

Finishing

Installing components




Install:
- Battery shelf
- Air cleaner (ACL) housing
- Battery. Reconnect battery leads
Set the clock and anti-theft radio code.
