High Pressure Pump
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Socket TORX T30 (T10347)
• Socket (T10456)
Removing
- Disconnect the coolant hoses - 1 and 2 - from the intake manifold.
• Follow the safety measures for releasing the high side fuel pressure. Refer to => [ High Side Fuel Pressure, Releasing ] Service and Repair.
• Fuel pipes are under pressure. Always wear protective eyewear and protective clothing to prevent injuries and fuel from coming in contact with your skin. Before loosening the fuel pipe, place a cloth around the connection point. Then release pressure by carefully loosening.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors - arrows - and remove the intake manifold runner control valve - A -.
- Remove the coolant pipe from the intake manifold - arrows -.
- Unclip the wiring harness - 1 -, remove the bolts - 2 and 3 - and remove the engine lifting eye.
- Remove the low pressure hose - 1 -. Remove the high pressure pipe - 2 - using the wrench socket (T10456). When doing this, counter hold the connection on the high pressure pump using a wrench.
- Disconnect the connector - A -, remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the high pressure pump - B - from the engine.
Installing
- Check the cam follower - 1 - for damage and replace it if necessary. Lubricate the cam follower and insert it correctly with its guide - 2 - into the cylinder head.
- Slowly rotate the engine using the vibration damper in engine rotation direction, when doing this, press the cam follower in the - direction of the arrow - until it reaches the deepest point in the cylinder head.
- Replace the O-rings on the high pressure pump and coat them lightly with clean motor oil.
- Install the high pressure pump and tighten the bolts - arrows - evenly.
- Tighten the connection for the high pressure pipe and low pressure hose at the high pressure pump.
High pressure pipe connection: 40 Nm
Low pressure hose connection: 28 Nm.
• The low pressure hose must always be replaced because it is damaged when it is removed from the ridged connections.
• The low pressure hose and high pressure pipe must not touch after being tightened. Ensure sufficient spacing.
- Install the new low pressure hose - A -. Pay attention to the installation marks and the position of the spring type clamps - arrows -.
- Install the high pressure pipe and tighten the union nuts by hand.
- Evenly tighten the high pressure pipe - A - using the wrench socket (T10456) while counter holding the high pressure pipe in the - direction of the arrow -. The high pressure pipe - A - and low pressure hose - B - must not touch after being tightened.
• Tightening specification: 28 Nm
Install the engine lifting eye.
