Upper Intake Manifold






Upper Intake Manifold

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Assembly Tool (T10118)

Removing

Read the safety precautions before beginning work. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Fuel Supply.

Observe the rules for cleanliness. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Multiport Fuel Injection.

Intake manifold overview. Refer to => [ Intake Manifold Overview ] Intake Manifold Overview.

- Remove the ignition coil wiring harness cover strip.






- Place the assembly tool (T10118) on the release button - arrow - and carefully pull up all connectors for the ignition coils with power output stage.






- Press the wire duct upward using a screwdriver and move the connectors to the side.






- Remove the connecting pipe, disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the hoses.






- Disengage the coolant hoses and remove the bolts, bracket and vacuum hose.






- Remove the bolts and intake manifold.






Cover the intake passages in the lower intake manifold with a clean cloth.

Installing






The seals must be forcefully inserted into the upper intake manifold. Leaks will occur if the seals remain in the lower intake manifold and are not in the upper intake manifold.

- Install the seals in the upper intake manifold and lightly coat them with clean engine oil.

- 1 - Large seals

- 2 - Small seals

- Mount the upper intake manifold onto the lower intake manifold.

- Tighten the upper intake manifold to lower intake manifold bolts evenly starting from the inside and working toward the outside - 1 through 5 -. Tightening specification: 10 Nm






- Then, tighten the bolts for the intake manifold support.

The rest of the installation is basically a reverse of the removal sequence.
