Removing

- Drain the engine oil.

Observe disposal regulations!

- Holding the engine in its installed position. Refer to => [ Engine, Holding in its Installed Position ] Engine, Holding in its Installed Position.

- Remove the subframe.

- Remove the engine carrier. The engine mounts can remain attached to the engine carrier.

- Disconnect the connector from the oil level thermal sensor (G266).

- Remove the transmission/oil pan bolts.

- Remove the oil pan bolts on the transmission side - arrows - using the socket XZN 8 (T40159) through the openings in the transmission.

- Remove the remaining oil pan bolts.

- Loosen the oil pan with light blows from a rubber mallet if necessary.

- Remove any sealant residue from the cylinder block with a flat scraper.

- Remove any sealant residue from the pan with a rotating brush, for example, using a hand drill with a plastic brush attachment (wear eye protection).

- Clean the sealing surfaces, they must be free of oil and grease.

Installing

Note the expiration date of the sealant.

The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after application of the sealant.

- Cut the sealant tube nozzle at the front mark (nozzle diameter: approximately 3 mm).

- Apply the sealant as illustrated. The sealant bead must be:

2 to 3 mm thick

and run on the inside of the bolt holes - arrows -

The sealant bead must not be thicker, otherwise the excess sealant will enter the oil pan and may block the suction pipe strainer.

- Apply the sealant to clean oil pan sealing surfaces as shown.

- Install the oil pan immediately and tighten all the oil pan bolts lightly.

- Tighten the oil pan bolts to 12 Nm.

After installing the oil pan, allow the sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes. Only after then may the engine oil be added.

The rest of the installation is basically a reverse of the removal sequence.
