Oil Pan
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A)
• Shackle (10 - 222 A/12)
• Adapter (10 - 222 A/16)
• Adapter (10 - 222 A/19)
• Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Sealant (D 176 501 A1)
• Hand Drill with Plastic Brush Attachment
• Flat Scraper
• Protective Eyewear
Removing
- Drain the engine oil.
• Observe disposal regulations!
- Disconnect the connection for the air suspension compressor from the air filter. Refer to => [ Connecting Line to Air Suspension Compressor, Disconnecting ] Air Filter Housing Overview.
- Completely remove the air filter with Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor.
- Remove the engine mount bracket to engine mount nuts - 2 - on the right and left sides.
- Install the (10 - 222 A/16) onto the (10 - 222 A) with the high side of the threaded spindle guide facing upward as shown in the illustration.
- Install the (10 - 222 A/19) on the left and right of the (10 - 222 A). Install the (10 - 222 A) onto the longitudinal members.
- Support the engine using two (10 - 222 A/12) at the (10 - 222 A/16) and pretension the engine slightly.
- Remove the subframe.
- Remove the engine carrier. The engine mounts can remain attached to the engine carrier.
- Disconnect the 3 pin connector from the oil level thermal sensor (G266).
- Remove the oil pan bolts.
- Loosen the oil pan with light blows from a rubber mallet if necessary.
- Remove the sealant residue from the cylinder block with a flat scraper.
- Remove any sealant residue from the pan with a rotating brush, for example, using a hand drill with a plastic brush attachment (wear eye protection).
- Clean the sealing surfaces, they must be free of oil and grease.
Installing
• Note the expiration date of the sealant compound.
• The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after application of the sealant.
- Cut the tube nozzle at the front mark (nozzle diameter approximately 3 mm).
- Apply the sealant to the clean sealing surfaces of the oil pan as shown. The sealant bead must be:
• 2 to 3 mm thick
• and run on the inside of the bolt holes - arrows -
• The sealant bead must not be thicker, otherwise excess sealant will enter the oil pan and may block the oil suction pipe strainer.
- Apply the sealant to the clean oil pan sealing surfaces as shown.
- Install the oil pan immediately and tighten all bolts by hand.
- Tighten the oil pan bolts to 12 Nm.
• After installing the oil pan, allow the sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes. Only after then may the engine oil be added.
The rest of the installation is basically a reverse of the removal sequence.
