02E Transmission






Transmission Fluid Cooler

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose Clamps up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Removing

- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.

- Remove the battery and the battery tray.

- Place lint free clothes under he transmission fluid cooler on the transmission to absorb leaking coolant.

- Clamp off the coolant hoses using the hose clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094) and remove the hose from the fluid cooler.






- Remove the bolts - A - and the transmission fluid cooler - B -.







Coolant must not drip into transmission!

Installing

- Replace the transmission oil cooler O-rings - C -.






- Install the transmission fluid cooler - B -, while doing this, pay attention to the O-rings - C -.

- Tighten the new bolts - A - to 20 Nm + 90° (1/4) additional turn.

- Install the coolant hoses to the transmission fluid cooler and remove the hose clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094).






- Install the battery tray and the battery.

- Check the coolant level and fill if necessary. Refer to one of the following:

Gas engines.

Diesel engines

- After repairing, check the transmission fluid level and fill. Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling ] Transmission Fluid Level, Checking and Filling.


Do not start the engine during the coolant level test if the transmission fluid has not been filled yet.
