EGR System

EGR System

Activation of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system occurs from the engine control module (J623) and the engine control module 2 (J624) via the EGR potentiometer (G212) and the Exhaust gas recirculation position sensor 2 (G466).

The components illustrated here are for cylinder bank 2. They are a mirror image of the components for cylinder bank 1.

Bypass flap with cooler for EGR overview. Refer to => [ Bypass Flap with Cooler for EGR ] Bypass Flap with Cooler for EGR.

1 Test Connection Bracket

Cylinder bank 1, see => [ (Item 6) Test Connection ] [1][2]Diagrams.

Cylinder bank 2, see => [ (Item 1) Test Connection ] [1][2]Diagrams.

2 Bolt

8 Nm

3 Seal

Always replace.

Before installing, check the sealing surfaces for contamination and clean if necessary.

4 Gasket

Always replace.

Note the installed position.

5 to the Bypass Flap

See => [ (Item 16) Connecting Pipe ] Bypass Flap with Cooler for EGR.

6 Connecting Pipe

7 Bolt

20 Nm

8 from the Bypass Flap

See => [ (Item 17) Connecting Pipe ] Bypass Flap with Cooler for EGR.

9 Bracket

For the connecting pipe => [ (Item 10) Connecting Pipe ].

10 Connecting Pipe

11 Connecting Pipe

12 Bolt

8 Nm

13 to the Turbocharger

See => [ (Item 5) Turbocharger ] Turbocharger Overview.

15 Intake Connection with Intake Flap Motor

Cylinder bank 1:

Intake flap motor (V157).

Cylinder bank 2:

Intake flap motor 2 (V275).

16 EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid Valve with EGR Potentiometer

Cylinder bank 1:

EGR vacuum regulator solenoid valve (N18) (electro-pneumatic) with EGR potentiometer (G212).

Cylinder bank 2:

Valve 2 for EGR (N213) (electro-pneumatic) with exhaust gas recirculation position sensor 2 (G466).

If the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid valve is replaced with the EGR potentiometer, you must then:

- Turn the ignition on and off.

- Then wait for one minute for the control module after-run.

- Start the engine and let it run at idle for at least 1 minute.

- Then, check the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory of the Engine Control Module (ECM). Refer to => [ Engine Control Module DTC Memory, Checking and Erasing ] Scan Tool Testing and Procedures.

If a fault is stored in the DTC memory:

- Repeat the work procedure.

17 Intake Manifold

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Intake Manifold ] Service and Repair.
