Balance Shaft: Description and Operation

Balance Shaft Overview

• Secure the engine to the engine and transmission holder (VAS 6095) when working on it.

• It is only possible to remove the differential shaft when the engine timing module has been removed beforehand. Refer to => [ Engine Timing Module ] Service and Repair.






1 Thrust Washer

2 Bolt

• Note the tightening sequence and specification, refer to => [ Main Bearing Bolt Tightening ] Service and Repair.

3 Bolt

• For the differential shaft bearing.

• Note the tightening sequence and specification, refer to => [ Main Bearing Bolt Tightening ] Service and Repair.

4 Bearing Cap

• With a tab for securing the oil pump.

5 Bearing Shell

6 Differential Shaft

• Positioning, refer to => [ The input shaft fits only in one
position. Rotate the shaft so that the wide cutout in the hole aligns
to the broad tooth on the pin. ] Service and Repair.

• Bearing cap with grooves for the thrust washers.
