Center and Rear Muffler Separating

• A separating point has been provided in the connecting pipe for removing, installing and individual replacement of the center or rear muffler.

• The separating point is marked by a depression around the circumference of the exhaust pipe.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Body Repair Saw (V.A.G 1523 A)

• Chain Pipe Cutter (VAS 6254)

• Protective Eyewear

Procedure

CAUTION!
To prevent injuries from metal shavings, wear protective goggles and protective clothing.

- Cut through the exhaust pipe using (V.A.G 1523 A) at right angles at the separating point.

• Right rear muffler separating point from the exhaust pipe - arrows 1 -.





• Rear muffler installation depth is identified by a mark - arrow 2 - on the center muffler exhaust pipe.

• Left rear muffler separating point from the exhaust pipe - arrow 1 -.





• Rear muffler installation depth is identified by a mark - arrow 2 - on the center muffler exhaust pipe.

- When installing, slide the rear muffler - 3 - up to the mark - arrow - on the center muffler exhaust pipe - 1 -.





- Position the clamping sleeve - 2 - so that dimension - a - is achieved.

2 Clamp
3 Rear muffler
a Dimension a approximately 5 mm

- When installing the clamp, ensure the bolt end does not project over the lower edge of the clamping sleeve.





- Align the exhaust system so distance - a - is equal on the right and left sides.





- Tighten the clamp connection to 40 Nm.
