Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1410)

Socket and Key (T40031)

- Place selector lever in position "P".

- Disconnect intake hose - 1 - and connector - 2 - from Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.





- Remove bolts - 3 - and - 4 -.

- Remove air filter completely.

- Check whether bolt - 2 - is present on selector lever cable - 3 -.





Continuation for vehicles with bolt - 2 - on selector lever cable - 3 - (adjustment of selector lever cable on transmission).

Continuation for vehicles without bolt - 2 - on selector lever cable - 3 - (adjustment of selector lever cable on selector mechanism).

Vehicles with selector lever cable adjustment on transmission

- Loosen bolt - 2 -.





- Set lever/selector shaft on transmission to "P", push lever/selector shaft in opposite direction of travel until it stops.

- Turn both front wheels in one direction, e.g. by pushing the vehicle forward until detent lever in transmission engages into parking lock gear and wheels are locked (cannot be turned together in one direction).

The selector lever must remain in position "P" with clamping screw - 2 - loosened, otherwise the setting is not correct.

- Carefully move selector lever lightly toward front and rear without shifting into another selector lever position.

- Tighten clamping screw - 2 - gently to 13 Nm.

When tightening clamping screw - 2 -, make sure that selector lever cable is not slid even once.

Vehicles with selector lever adjustment on selector mechanism

- Set lever/selector shaft on transmission to "P", push lever/selector shaft in opposite direction of travel until it stops.

- Turn both front wheels in one direction, e.g. by pushing the vehicle forward until detent lever in transmission engages into parking lock gear and wheels are locked (cannot be turned together in one direction).

- Carefully move selector lever lightly toward front and rear without shifting into another selector lever position.

- Remove cover for selector mechanism => [ Selector Mechanism Cover and Circuit Board ] Selector Mechanism Cover and Circuit Board.

- Loosen rear clamping screw on selector lever cable through the hole in selector mechanism approx. one turn using Socket And Key (T40031).





Loosen clamping screw approx. 1 turn. Do not remove.

Clamping screw is only accessible in selector lever position " P".

Selector lever must remain in position "P" while clamping screw is loose.

- Check exact position of selector lever in shift position " P".

When adjusting, do not move selector lever backward or forward, or adjustment will be falsified.

- Gently tighten clamping screw in this position using Socket And Key (T40031) to 13 Nm.

- Install cover for selector mechanism => [ Selector Mechanism Cover and Circuit Board ] Selector Mechanism Cover and Circuit Board.

Continuation for all vehicles

- Install complete air filter housing.
