Left Drive Flange Sealing Ring

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Slide Hammer-Complete Set (VW 771)

• Additional Part For VW 771 (VW 771/37)

• Thrust piece (3305)

• Torque Wrench 5-50 Nm (V.A.G 1331)

• Torque Wrench 40-200 Nm (V.A.G 1332)

• Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)

Removing

• Transmission is installed.

- Remove left front wheel.

- Remove center and left sections of noise insulation below engine/transmission.

- Steering turned toward left.

- Mark installation position of ball joint bolts - arrows - on left control arm.





- Remove bolts - arrows -.

- Disengage left coupling rod - 1 - from control arm and rotate coupling rod upward.





- Remove drive axle from flanged shaft.

- Swing out wheel bearing housing.

- Guide out left drive axle - 2 - between subframe and transmission.

- Bring drive axle upward and secure to suspension strut with wire, do not damage protective coating when doing this.

- Place appropriate receptacle underneath transmission.

- Remove mounting bolt for flange shaft.

To do so, install two bolts into flange and counterhold flange shaft using tire iron.

- Pull out flanged shaft with compression spring.

- Remove flange shaft seal using (VW 771) and (VW 771/37).





Installing

- Drive in new seal to stop, without canting seal.





- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Insert flange shaft, secure with conical head bolt and tighten conical head bolt to 30 Nm.

- Install left drive axle on flange shaft.

- Install left front wheel.

- Change transmission oil filter and transmission oil => [ Transmission Oil and Filter ] Transmission Oil and Filter.

- Install center and left sections of noise insulation below engine/transmission.
