Thermostat: Service and Repair






Thermostat

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Refractometer (T10007)

Drip tray (V.A.G 1306) or ( VAS 6208)

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

Spring type clip pliers (VAS 5024 ) or spring type clip pliers (VAS 5024A )

Removing

Always replace gaskets and seals.

- Drain coolant => [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] Cooling System, Draining and Filling.

- Remove the coolant hose from the thermostat housing.

- Remove bolts - 1 - from thermostat housing - 2 - and remove housing - 2 - with coolant thermostat - 4 -.





- Rotate the coolant thermostat - 4 - 1/ 4 turn (90°) to the left and remove it from the housing - 2 -.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Coat the new O-ring - 3 - with coolant and mount it on the housing - 2 -.





- Insert the coolant thermostat - 4 - in the housing - 2 - and turn it 1/4 (90°) turn to the right.

The clip of the thermostat must be positioned at approximately right angle.

- Insert the thermostat housing - 2 - with thermostat - 4 - into the engine block.

- Tighten mounting bolts - 1 -.

Tightening specification: 15 Nm

- Fill with coolant => [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] Cooling System, Draining and Filling.
