DTC 2323

DTC 2323 [California (Digifant I)]

1. With the ignition "OFF", disconnect the Digifant I control unit harness connector. The Digifant I control unit is located beneath the drip tray, at the left rear (drivers side) of the engine compartment. For these tests it may be easier to remove the control unit from its mount, this will allow better access to the harness connector pins.

Digifant I 38 Pin Control Unit Connector:

2. Connect a suitable volt/ohm meter between terminal 15 and 28 of the Digifant I control unit harness connector. Set the volt/ohm meter to ohms.

Special Tools:

CAUTION: Avoid damaging the delicate connectors within the control unit harness connector. A simple set of test leads can be fabricated using flat connectors (part # VW N 17 457 2) or equivalent, and a pair of alligator clips.

^ The correct measurement should be 500 to 1000 ohms, depending on flap position.

3. Disconnect the intake boot.
4. Connect the volt/ohm meter between terminal 13 and 15 of the Digifant I control unit harness connector. Set the volt/ohm meter to ohms. Measure the resistance while moving the air flow sensor flap.

^ The resistance should change as the flap is moved.

5. If the correct measurement is obtained the problem is intermittent (check the harness and connectors for poor connections). If the correct measurement is not obtained, disconnect the air flow sensor connector and check for continuity between terminal:

Air Flow Sensor:

a. 13 of the Digifant I control unit harness connector and terminal 2 of the air flow sensor harness connector.
b. 15 of the Digifant I control unit harness connector and terminal 3 of the air flow sensor harness connector.
c. 28 of the Digifant I control unit harness connector and terminal 4 of the air flow sensor harness connector.

^ The correct measurement should be less than 1 ohm (continuity).

If the correct measurements are not obtained, repair or replace the harness as necessary. If the correct measurements are obtained continue with test step 6.

6. Connect volt/ohm meter between terminal 3 and 4 of the air flow sensor plug and measure the resistance.

^ The correct measurement should be approx. 500 to 1000 ohms.

7. Disconnect the intake boot.
8. Connect the volt/ohm meter between terminal 2 and 3 of the air flow sensor plug. Measure the resistance while moving the air flow sensor flap.

^ The resistance should change as the flap is moved.

NOTE: If the flap binds or sticks when moved, replace the air flow sensor.

If the correct measurements are not obtained, the air flow sensor is defective. Replace the air flow sensor.
