DTC 2312 [California (Digifant II)]


CALIFORNIA VEHICLES PRODUCED PRIOR TO JAN. 1989 ONLY

1. With the ignition "OFF", disconnect the Digifant II control unit harness connector. The Digifant II control unit is located beneath the drip tray, at the left rear (drivers side) of the engine compartment.
2. Connect a suitable volt/ohm meter between terminal 6 and 10 of the Digifant II control unit harness connector. Set the volt/ohm meter to ohms.

Special Tools:

CAUTION: Avoid damaging the delicate connectors within the control unit harness connector. A simple set of test leads can be fabricated using flat connectors (part # VW N 17 457 2) or equivalent, and a pair of alligator clips.





^ Refer to the temperature sensor graph for the correct measurement.

3. If the correct measurement is obtained the problem is intermittent (check the harness and connectors for poor connections). If the correct measurement is not obtained, disconnect the coolant temperature sensor connector and check for continuity between terminal:

Coolant Temperature Sensor:

a. 6 of the Digifant II control unit harness connector and terminal 2 of the coolant temperature sensor harness connector.
b. 1 of the coolant temperature sensor harness connector and terminal 10 of the Digifant II control unit.

^ The correct measurement should be less than 1 ohm (continuity).

If the correct measurements are not obtained, repair or replace the harness as necessary. If the correct measurements are obtained continue with test step 4.

4. Connect the volt/ohm meter between terminal 1 and 2 of the coolant temperature sensor.





^ Refer to the temperature sensor graph for the correct measurement.

If the measurement is incorrect the coolant temperature sensor is defective. Replace the coolant temperature sensor. If the measurement is correct the Digifant II control unit may be defective.
