When Put In Gear, Drive Signal
Symptom Of Fault.
Engine idling speed drops when the selector lever is moved away from P or N.
Conditions.
Fuse 9 is intact.
Diagnostic Procedure.
1. Check the DRIVE function
- Connect an ISAT scantool.
- Ignition switch in ON position.
- Select "READ ON/OFF".
- Select "DRIVE".
- Move the selector lever from P and N to another gear position to check for the presence of an input signal.
Is the ISAT scan tool reading correct?
YES:
^ Change the idle air control valve and then continue with point 3.
NO:
^ Continue with point 2.
2. Check the DRIVE signal
- Remove the Trionic control module.
- Ignition switch in ON position.
- Connect the test lamp to pins 14 and 25 of the Trionic control module's connector.
The test lamp should light up when the selector [ever is in any position except P and N.
Functionality OK?
YES:
^ Continue with point 3.
NO:
^ Check and if necessary repair or replace the lead between pin 14 of the Trionic control module and pin 4 of the starting interlock switch.
If the lead is OK, continue fault diagnosis in the Electrical system, starting and charging systems. Then continue with point 3.
3. Final check:
- Perform a driving cycle:
^ Drive the car at varying engine loads and rpm for 5 minutes.
^ Car speed should exceed 12 mph (20 km/h) at some time during the driving cycle.
^ Stop the car, apply the handbrake and run the engine at idling speed.
^ Switch off the A/C and all electrical equipment. If the car has automatic transmission, select position P.
Allow the engine to stabilize its idling speed for 10 sec.
^ Switch on the A/C and all electrical equipment. If the car has automatic transmission, select position D. Allow the engine to stabilize its idling speed for 10 sec.
- Evaluation of driving cycle: Check whether diagnostic trouble codes P0505-PO507 have been generated.
Has any of the diagnostic trouble codes been generated?
YES:
^ Proceed to "Idle Air Control Valve, DTC P0505 - P0507".
NO:
^ The remedial measure taken was correct.
