Fault Code 5/33240, 5/33250, 5/33270

Malfunction indicated
Main relay control signals absent or faulty.

Fault symptom
The car goes into Limp Home mode. The TCS CTRL lamp lights up.

Test procedure

1 Check that the main relay has the correct part number.

2 With a BOB plugged into the ETS control unit, all components connected and the ignition switch in the Drive position, check that battery voltage is present on socket 22.
If voltage is present on 22, switch off the ignition and wait for five seconds to be sure that the voltage is disconnected (listen for the relay to release).
If the relay fails to release, check whether about 12V is present on pin 13. If it is not, check the BU lead to pin 85 of the relay for shorting to earth.
If the relay releases, as it should, check whether the voltage on pin 13 is about 1.5 V or less. If it is not, check the BU lead to pin 85 of the relay for shorting to B+.

3 If the above tests do not check out OK, go to point 4.
If the relay and leads are OK, drive the car to see whether the fault code is generated afresh. If it is, fit a new ETS control unit.

4 If battery voltage is still present on pin 22 when the relay has been removed, go to point 5.
If it is not, fit a new main relay.

5 Check the BU/RD lead between pin 22 of the connector and pin 87 of the main relay for shorting to B + and remedy the fault.
