Fault Symptom 1

Diagnostic Trouble Codes:

45522 Open circuit
45532 Short circuit

Fuel gauge shows empty. Fuel warning lamp lights up. The range arrow flashes or an error indication is obtained on selection of range indication.

Action

1 Unplug the tank unit connector and check the resistance across pins 3 and 4 of the tank unit. For M90-91 it should be between 35 and 350 ohms and for M92-94 between 33 and 370 ohms. If the resistance is not OK, change the fuel level sensor.

2 If the resistance is OK, check the voltage on pin 3 of the tank unit connector. The instrument reading should be battery voltage. If it is not, check the wiring for continuity or shorting.

3 Check that pin 4 of the tank unit connector is grounded by taking a reading across this pin aid pin 26 of the EDU control module connector. If the instrument indicates resistance, check time lead for an open circuit.

4 If the fault cannot be located by any of the above methods, try another EDU control module that is known to be OK.

WARNING: Make sure that the locking clip is fitted on the fuel lines connected to the pump. The fuel lines may otherwise work loose and fuel will spray out when the engine is started.
