How to Clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes

CLEARING TROUBLE CODES

NOTE: Before clearing any stored codes, check first for external fault codes, then internal fault codes.

1. Press the "A" and "C" keys simultaneously. "Er" will appear in the display.
2. Press the "0" key.

NOTE: The first time the "C" key is pressed, the code for SRS (system designation) will be displayed and the second time it is pressed the program version will be displayed. The third time, all faults will be cleared. If clearing the trouble codes has been carried out correctly, "01" will be displayed. Otherwise, "02" will be displayed. (If "02" is displayed, the memory will have to be cleared again)

It will not be possible to clear the diagnostic trouble codes if the airbag system has been activated.

AFTER CLEARING CODES
If diagnostic procedures have been performed, or SRS components have been replaced, the following steps need to be performed and noted:
1. On completion of the diagnostic procedure, in each case, clear the trouble code and wait at least 40 seconds with the ignition switched ON. Then check to see whether any other trouble codes have been generated.
2. The diagnostic procedures mainly concern faults of permanent type (L). If the fault is of intermittent type (S). it may not occur just at the time when fault diagnosis is carried out.
3. Clear the fault and try to provoke it by jiggling the relevant connectors, wiring, etc.
4. If the fault cannot be made to occur in this manner, try replacing the component indicated by the fault code.
5. Each time a component is changed, clear the fault and drive the car for at least 10 minutes. Then check to see whether any trouble codes have been generated.
