Fault Code 6/7XXXX

Malfunction indicated
Control unit fault

Fault symptom
The car goes into Limp Home mode. The TCS CTRL lamp lights up.

In certain cases, ETS control units with a manufacturing code before 9106 (061) can cause the car to go into Limp Home mode through fault detection in the Power-Off test. Here the voltage levels on pins 15 and 30 are compared and if the difference in voltage exceeds a certain tolerance limit, Limp Home mode is engaged.

Beginning with the specified manufacturing code, the tolerance limit has been increased so that undesirable fault detection should not be possible.

Test procedure

1 If any other fault code beginning with 2, 3, 4 or 5 is generated at the same time, check these fault codes first.

2 Clear the fault codes and drive the car to see whether the fault code is generated afresh.

3 If the fault code is repeated, try an ETS control unit which is known to be OK.

Note: The fault-tracing procedure applies to all fault codes beginning with 6XXXX or 7XXXX, except those which have their own fault-tracing procedures.
