Fault Code 6/783B0

Malfunction indicated
Throttle butterfly control faulty, causing the butterfly to oscillate.

Fault symptom
The car goes into Limp Home mode. The TCS CTRL lamp lights up.

Test procedure

1 Check the throttle housing's connector for poor contact (damaged or corroded pins).

2 With the ASR and ETS control units unplugged, the throttle housing disconnected, the ignition switch in the Drive position and a BOB connected to the ETS, check that the circuit is not shorting to earth/+ 12 V by measuring the resistance across pins 3 and 16, across 3 and B+, and across 16 and B+(OL). Also measure the voltage drop across 3 and earth and across 16 and earth (less than about 0.1 V).

3 If the circuit is, fit a new throttle housing.

4 If no fault can be found and the above tests check out OK, clear the fault code and drive the car to see whether it is generated afresh. If it is, try fitting an ETS control unit that is known to be OK.
