DTC 30 - SRS Lamp Short to Battery Positive or Ground

MALFUNCTION
DTC 30 L or 30 S: SRS lamp, shorting to battery positive or ground

- If the fault is intermittent (S), it could have been caused by fuse 13 being removed and the ignition then being switched ON. When the fuse was subsequently put back and the ignition switched ON again, trouble code 30S would be generated.
- Shorting to ground can be noticed by the SRS lamp lighting up continuously when the ignition is switched ON.
- Shorting to battery positive can be noticed by the SRS lamp failing to light up for six seconds when the ignition is first switched ON.
- The fault must have been of continuous duration for at least 20 seconds before the trouble code will be stored in the memory.

DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
1. Unscrew the steering wheel center pad (airbag module) and unplug the connector at the rear. Plug reference resistor 84 71 153 into the connector.
2. Check the wiring between pin 7 of connector 58, pin 10 of data link connector 330 and pin 20 of the control module for shorting to ground or battery positive.
3. Check the wiring between pin 7 of connector 58 and pin 8 of the pictogram (SRS indicator) for shorting to ground or battery positive.
4. Check the pictogram (SRS indicator) in the main instrument display panel for shorting to ground or battery positive.
