Checking Injector Flow Capacity
Checking Injector Flow CapacityTools:
- Cable, fault diagnosis LH 83 93 886
- Jumper cable 8611 345
- Test cable, female 86 11 410
- Test hose, flow measurement 83 94 405
- Graduated measuring glass
WARNING
- When carrying out any work involving fuel, the fuel supply or fuel injection, make sure that the premises are well ventilated.
- If approved extraction equipment for fuel vapor is available, use it.
- Since prolonged contact with fuel may give rise to skin irritation, suitable gloves should be worn.
- No smoking anywhere in the vicinity!
- Always make sure that a suitable fire extinguisher is near at hand.
1 Remove the fuel rail with injectors but do not remove the injectors from the rail, see under "Injectors" in the "adjustment / replacement of components" section. ZZZZZZ
2 Start the fuel pump by connecting fault diagnosis cable 83 93 886 to fuses 14 and 22.
Check that the injectors do not leak.
3 Connect the hose to each of the injectors in turn. Place the tree end of the hose in a measuring glass. Connect the injector in question to battery voltage by means of cable assembly 86 11 410 and 8611 345.
Activate the injector for exactly 30 seconds. Then check the amount of fuel in the measuring glass, see table below.
Table:
Check that flow capacity is the same for all injectors.
The specified flow rates are valid at room temperature (20 ± 1°C).
Injector opening duration is proportional to engine load. The greater the load, the longer the opening duration.
4 Change any faulty injectors.
5 Fit the fuel-injection rail and injectors. Be sure to fit the injector connectors to the right injectors.
