Standard Deployment Control System





PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]

WARNING:
- Handling the air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module. Air Bag System Service Warnings Air Bag System Service Cautions

1. Switch the ignition to off.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more.

3. Remove the following parts:
a. Passenger-side front scuff plate Front Scuff Plate Removal/Installation

b. Passenger-side front side trim Front Side Trim Removal/Installation

c. Side wall Side Wall Removal/Installation

d. Center console box Center Console Box Removal/Installation

e. Console panel Console Panel Removal/Installation

f. Center console Center Console Removal/Installation

g. Shift lever knob (MTX) Service and Repair

h. Selector lever knob (ATX) Automatic Transaxle Shift Mechanism Removal/Installation

i. Shift panel Shift Panel Removal/Installation

j. Front console Front Console Removal/Installation

k. Side panel Side Panel Removal/Installation

l. Glove compartment Service and Repair

m. Passenger-side lower panel Lower Panel Removal/Installation

4. Using a flathead screwdriver, lift the locking device carefully, however do not remove it.






5. Remove the nuts.

6. Remove the brackets.

7. Remove the bolts.

8. Lift the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of arrow (1) as shown in the figure.






9. Pull the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of arrow (2) and detach the hook (front) from the instrument panel.

10. Rotate the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of arrow (3).






11. Press the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of arrow (4) and rotate it in the direction of arrow (5).

12. Pull the passenger-side air bag module downward (6) and remove it.

13. Install in the reverse order of removal.

14. Switch the ignition to ON.

15. Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and goes out.

- If the air bag system warning light does not operate, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. Standard Deployment Control System
