Operation and Pre-Inspection

Direct Clutch

CAUTION: Applying compressed air to the assembled clutch pack for longer than 3 seconds at a time will damage the seal. Do not apply compressed air for more than the aforementioned time when testing the system.

CLUTCH OPERATION
1. Install the direct clutch onto the drum support along with the seal rings. Apply compressed air to the oil passage as shown with an air pressure of 392 kPa (57 psi) maximum.
2. Verify that the side plate moves to the snap ring. If not, the O-ring or the oil seal may be damaged or fluid may be leaking at the piston check ball. Inspect them and replace when assembling.
3. If not as specified, replace parts as necessary.

CLUTCH CLEARANCE
1. Measure the clearance between the side plate and the snap ring. Maximum clearance is 0.2 mm (0.008 inch).
2. If not as specified, replace parts as necessary.
