Pinpoint Test J: The Stoplamps Are On Continuously
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 90, Turn Signal/Stop/Hazard Lamps for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
When the brake pedal is applied, the stoplamp switch routes voltage to the multifunction switch through circuit 10 (LG/RD) and the circuit filter through circuit 10 (LG/RD). The multifunction switch then routes the voltage through circuits 9 (LG/OG) and 5 (OG/LB) to the LH and RH rear lamps. The circuit filter routes the voltage to the high mounted stoplamp through circuit 511 (LG).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Stoplamp switch
- Multifunction switch
PINPOINT TEST J: THE STOPLAMPS ARE ON CONTINUOUSLY
-------------------------------------------------
J1 CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH
- Disconnect: Stoplamp Switch C278.
- Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate?
Yes
GO to J2.
No
INSTALL a new stoplamp switch. REFER to Stoplamp Switch Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
J2 CHECK CIRCUIT 511 (LG) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect: Circuit Filter C3148.
- Does the high mounted stoplamp continue to illuminate?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to J3.
-------------------------------------------------
J3 CHECK CIRCUIT 10 (LG/RD) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Connect: Circuit Filter C3148.
- Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202c.
- Does the high mounted stoplamp continue to illuminate?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to J4.
-------------------------------------------------
J4 CHECK CIRCUITS 9 (LG/OG) AND 5 (OG/LB) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202a.
- Do the rear stoplamps continue to illuminate?
Yes
If the LH rear stoplamp continues to illuminate, REPAIR circuit 9 (LG/OG). TEST the system for normal operation.
If the RH rear stoplamp continues to illuminate, REPAIR circuit 5 (OG/LB). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new multifunction switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
