Normal Operation
With the ignition switch in the RUN position, and the gear selector in REVERSE (R), the parking aid system calculates the distance to an object by the use of a radar sensor. Reverse status is communicated to the parking aid module from the transmission range (TR) sensor on circuit 140 (BK/PK). Vehicle speed status is communicated to the parking aid module from the powertrain control module (PCM) on circuit 679 (GY/BK).

With the ignition switch in the RUN position, and the gear selector in REVERSE (R), the parking aid system calculates the distance to an object by the use of a radar sensor. A 750 Hz variable warning tone is generated by the parking aid sounder. The sounder increases its warning tone rate as the vehicle gets closer to an obstacle. When an object is detected within 45.7 cm (18 in) of the vehicle, the warning tone becomes continuous. Voltage is supplied from the parking aid module to the parking aid sounder through circuit 1437 (BK/PK). The parking aid sounder is grounded through circuit 676 (PK/OG). The parking aid sounder is located in, and part of the high mounted stop lamp Assembly.

The parking aid system is disabled when the operator selects PARK AID OFF through the message center. The parking aid system remains disabled until either the ignition key is cycled from RUN to OFF then RUN again, or PARK AID ON is selected through the message center. A reference voltage is sent from the instrument cluster to the parking aid module on circuit 1435 (DG/VT) indicating that a PARK AID OFF request has been made. The parking aid module generates a reference voltage to the instrument cluster on circuit 1436 (VT/OG) confirming that the request has been received, and the system has been disabled.

The parking aid system is disabled if any fault is detected. This will be indicated by the message center indicating PARK AID OFF.

Possible Causes
- Circuit 140 (BK/PK) open
- Circuit 676 (PK/OG) open
- Circuit 1435 (DG/VT) short to voltage
- Circuit 1436 (VT/OG) open or short to ground
- Circuit 1437 (BK/PK) open
- Parking aid system wiring harness
- Parking aid module
